Exhausting Options

JBA Performance Exhaust HeaderOkay, the vibration was stopped.  New motor mounts in place, it was time to tackle the exhaust header.  The 4.0L engine is prone to exhaust header issues.  And, the exhaust is a critical part of an engine.  You can improve performance of an engine by increasing air flow through the engine.  Basically, the hot exhaust gases need to go somewhere.  Why not through clean bends of an aftermarket performance header?

The stock 4.0L exhaust manifold would not place well in an airflow test.  On the other hand, aftermarket headers are tubular and designed for efficient air flow.

Take your pick.  There are several vendors providing quality products in a variety of price ranges.  Each has their advocates.  Some advocate for ceramic coating.  All agree on tubular construction.

Need Clearance? Relocate shock mount brackets

Rubicon Express Shock Mount BracketsEveryone needs a little extra ground clearance and what better way than a simple shock mount relocation?

Jeep Tech: All About Frames

The Jeep Technical frame pages are all about frames for Jeep vehicles. Jeeps used regular channel frames, boxed frames, and tube frames. Later Jeeps use a frameless uni-body construction in the XJ, ZJ, and WJ. Your frame might not be up to the task of hard use, especially if it is old. Frame boxing and gusseting can prevent frame cracks. Skid plates and cross members are also covered in the frame section.

Grab handles for your Jeep

Other grab handles are offered in any color you want as long as it is black.  And, other grab handles have a hard rubber handle.  The Surprise Straps Grab Handles are made using only 100% Nylon, American made #550 Paracord from the same Manufacturers that supply the US Military.  And, they provide a variety of color combinations to suit individual tastes or match vehicle color.  As my Jeep is red with black interior, I opted for the red Paracord over black nylon straps.

Life with a Jeep - Just another mod...

Okay, it started with a gasket replacement and escalated from there. Gasket replaced, thermostat housing replaced, fan belt replaced and manual throttle control installed.  And, everything works.

The paint dried and I reinstalled the floor panel over the transmission. That lead to another small item - new transmission shifter boot covering. The original was barely big enough and it was showing signs of stress - the rubber boot was in three pieces. Luckily, the local Pep Boys has the next larger size of universal covering in stock.  Perfect fit.
